Features/Advantages/Disadvantages
Cotton is a natural fiber known for its softness, breathability and pleasant touch on the skin. It absorbs moisture well and is hypoallergenic, making it suitable for sensitive skin and children. It is durable, comfortable to wear and easy to maintain.
The main advantages include breathability, comfort and versatility . Cotton is biodegradable and, if grown organically, can also be environmentally friendly.
The downside is that it wrinkles easily, can shrink in the wash, and dries more slowly than synthetics. In addition, conventional farming uses a lot of water and chemicals. Despite this, cotton remains one of the most popular fabrics due to its natural comfort.

Production process
The process of cotton production begins with the cultivation of the cotton plant, from which the hairs – the so-called cotton fibers – are collected after ripening . After harvesting, the raw cotton is cleaned of seeds and impurities using machines. The clean fibers are then combed, straightened and combined into thin strands , which are then spun into yarn.
This yarn is woven or knitted into fabric – either on a traditional loom or using knitting machines. The finished fabric can then be further treated – bleached, dyed or softened – to make it pleasant to the touch and ready for sewing.
The entire process is water and energy intensive, which is why organic cotton, which is grown in a more sustainable way, with fewer chemicals, is increasingly preferred.
